The Tears of Re: Beekeeping in Ancient Egypt

The Tears of Re: Beekeeping in Ancient Egypt by Gene Kritsky

English | 2015 | ISBN: 019936138X | 160 pages | PDF | 6 MB

According to Egyptian mythology, when the ancient Egyptian sun god Re cried, his tears turned into honey bees upon touching the ground. For this reason, the honey bee was sacrosanct in ancient Egyptian culture. From the art depicting bees on temple walls to the usage of beeswax as a healing ointment, the honey bee was a pervasive cultural motif in ancient Egypt because of its connection to the sun god Re. Gene Kritsky delivers the first book to examine the relationship between the honey bee and ancient Egyptian culture, through the lenses of linguistics, archeology, religion, health, and economics. Kritsky delves into ancient Egypt"s multifaceted society, and traces the importance of the honey bee in everything from death rituals to trade. In doing so, Kritsky brings new evidence to light of how advanced and fascinating the ancient Egyptians were.

This richly illustrated work appeals to a broad range of interests. For archeology lovers, Kritsky delves into the archeological evidence of Egyptian beekeeping and discusses newly discovered tombs, as well as evidence of manmade hives. Linguists will be fascinated by Kritsky"s discussion of the first documented written evidence of the honeybee hieroglyph. And anyone interested in ancient Egypt or ancient cultures in general will be intrigued by Kritsky"s treatment of the first documented beekeepers. This book provides a unique social commentary of a community so far removed from modern humans chronologically speaking, and yet so fascinating because of the stunning advances their society made. Beekeeping is the latest evidence of how ahead of their times the Egyptians were, and the ensuing narrative is as captivating as every other aspect of ancient Egyptian culture.

The Ancient Astronaut Papers -- Based On Newly Discovered FBI Documents

Chet Dembeck, "The Ancient Astronaut Papers — Based On Newly Discovered FBI Documents"

2012 | ASIN: B0073XQSFS | 23 pages | EPUB, MOBI | 1 MB

The FBI Spied On Ancient Astronaut Theorist

As a former news reporter, I am used to researching countless government documents in search of a key word, sentence or paragraph that will shed some light on a really hot story.

The existence of ancient astronauts, or extraterrestrial visitors who allegedly helped shape our world’s civilizations and religions is one such story, especially today when UFOs and so-called alien abductions have morphed into a vibrant new age religion.

So when I discovered a four-page declassified top secret FBI document carefully recording every word of an obscure Ufologist giving a talk in a small auditorium in 1960, it caught my attention. This is the same FBI that claimed at the time it had no interest in UFOs and that they were just natural phenomena, man-made aircraft or hoaxes. Upon closely scrutinizing the documents, to my surprise I found that the individual the FBI was spying on was presenting a concise ancient-astronaut theory that included scientific and technological facts that wouldn’t be discovered for more than 50 years.

It was then that I decided to share my findings with those like-minded individuals that might find this vintage Ufologist’s take on ancient astronauts as interesting as I did. Unlike today’s ancient astronaut theorists, this unnamed Ufologist offered concrete motives for the extraterrestrial visitors as well as the governments and institutions that denied their existence at all costs.

This report is concise and to the point and I’ve concluded it with another document I recently happened upon in the FBI’s vault that is relevant to this report. It is a hand-written note by J. Edgar Hoover himself acknowledging the Bureau’s desire to examine the “flying discs” that were in the possession of the U. S. Army. I’ve included copies of these documents at the end of this report I chose to name “The Ancient Astronaut Papers.”

Cordially,

Chet Dembeck

The Spartans: The World of the Warrior-Heroes of Ancient Greece

Audio CDs in MP3 / English: MP3, 64 kb/s (1 ch) | Duration: 08:36:43 | ISBN-10: 1433204991 | 2007 | 236 MB

Genre: History

The Spartans of ancient Greece were a powerful and unique people, radically different from any civilization before or since. A society of warrior-heroes, they were living exemplars of self-sacrifice, community endeavor, and achievement against all odds, qualities that today signify the ultimate in heroism. Scholars even believe that Thomas More had Sparta specifically in mind when he coined the term "Utopia."

Paul Cartledge, widely considered the world"s leading expert on Sparta, engagingly examines the rise and fall of this singular society. In a narrative that resounds with the battle cries of the ancient Greeks, he takes a compelling look at the many illustrious Spartan figures from the worlds of history and legend, including Lycurgus, Lysander, King Leonidas, and Helen of Troy and Sparta.

Foucault"s Virginity: Ancient Erotic Fiction and the History of Sexuality

Foucault"s Virginity: Ancient Erotic Fiction and the History of Sexuality (The W. B. Stanford Memorial Lectures) by Simon Goldhill

English | Jan. 27, 1995 | ISBN: 0521473721, 0521479347 | 208 Pages | PDF | 5 MB

This is a study of how sex and sexuality were written about in the first centuries of this era, a central period in the history of sexuality. Writing with the same wit and verve as the ancient writers he engages with, Simon Goldhill shows how the standard accounts of sexuality in this period are distorted by ignoring the sexy, ironic and often bizarre texts of the ancient novel, erotic poetry and humorous dialogues.
