The Caretakers of the Cosmos: Living Responsibly in an Unfinished World

The Caretakers of the Cosmos: Living Responsibly in an Unfinished World by Gary Lachman

English | 12 Aug. 2013 | ISBN: 1782500022 | 304 Pages | EPUB/AZW3/PDF (conv) | 4.28 MB

Why are we here? Human beings have asked themselves this question for centuries. Modern science largely argues that human beings are chance products of a purposeless universe, but other traditions believe humanity has an essential role and responsibility in creation. Lachman brings together many strands of esoteric, spiritual and philosophical thought to form a counter-argument to the nihilism that permeates the twenty-first century. Offering a radical alternative to postmodern apathy, he argues that we humans are the caretakers of the universe, entrusted with a daunting task: that of healing and repairing creation itself. This is an important book from a key thinker of our time, addressing some of the most urgent questions facing humanity.

Engineered Bone

Herve Petite, "Engineered Bone"

2005 | pages: 239 | ISBN: 1587061570 | PDF | 7,8 mb

The purpose of this book is to provide students, young investigators aswell as established researchers and clinicians with comprehensive reviews onfundamental and applied aspects of regeneration of bone and to offer insights into future developments. The book is divided in four different parts which are entitled “Building Blocks of Osteogenesis”, “Bone Healing”, “Tissue Engineering of Bone” and “From the Bench to the Bedside”.

The first section gives an overview of the building blocks of osteogen-esis. The opening chapter by Yang et al describes transcription factors that are essential in bone development. It followed by chapters by Kutzenov et al and Reddi which give respectively comprehensive overviews on skeletal stem cells and bone morphogenetic proteins. Finally, Burger et al stress the impor-tance of echanical forces such as fluid shear stress and cell stretching on bone formation in the last chapter of this section.
